Angelus Revisits Its Racing-Era Chronographs With The New Chronographe Tachymètre
The new Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre arrives in three versions, each combining compact vintage proportions with a motorsport-inspired dial.
Angelus is leaning further into its historical chronograph identity.
Following the Chronographe Télémètre, which won the Chronograph Watch Prize at the GPHG 2025, the manufacture now introduces the Chronographe Tachymètre, a new three-watch series inspired by Angelus chronographs from the 1930s through the 1950s. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
The concept is straightforward: compact proportions, traditional chronograph architecture and a tachymeter scale designed around speed.
But the execution is distinctly modern.
The new watches measure just 37mm in diameter and 9.25mm thick, making them the smallest and slimmest models in Angelus’ current collection. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
A Chronograph Built Around Speed
The defining feature is the tachymeter scale.
Calibrated to a base of 1,000, it allows the wearer to measure average speed over one kilometre or one mile using the central chronograph seconds hand. The elapsed minutes are recorded on the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
What stands out is the scale itself.
It begins at 500 km/h, making this a tachymeter that is visually and conceptually tied to very high speeds rather than everyday driving.
The tachymeter scale is calibrated to a base of 1,000 and begins at 500 km/h, reinforcing the watch’s high-speed character.
The chronograph is operated through a pusher integrated into the crown, keeping the case profile relatively clean.
Three Colourways
Angelus offers the Chronographe Tachymètre in three versions.
The 18K 3N yellow-gold model pairs a gold-toned dial with British racing green details.
One steel version uses a coral-pink dial with steel-grey accents.
The second steel model takes a cooler route, with a pearl-grey centre framed by petrol-blue counters and flange. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
The yellow-gold version pairs a warm gold dial with British racing green details.
The first steel model combines a coral-pink dial with contrasting steel-grey details.
The second steel version uses a pearl-grey centre with petrol-blue counters and flange.
The dial surfaces are equally considered.
The centre is grained, while the small-seconds and 30-minute counters are snailed. Applied numerals and hour markers are black-finished on the steel models and gold-toned on the yellow-gold version. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
Compact Case, Vintage Proportions
The case architecture is one of the strongest parts of the design.
At 37mm wide, it sits firmly in vintage-inspired territory, while the 9.25mm thickness keeps the profile unusually slim for a mechanical chronograph.
The caseband curves from lug to lug, while the lugs themselves sweep downward and appear to twist slightly along the case sides. Angelus uses this sculptural geometry throughout its La Fabrique collection. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
The 37mm case uses a curved mid-case and sculpted, downward-sweeping lugs to reinforce the watch’s vintage character.
A box-shaped sapphire crystal sits above the dial, while the caseback also uses sapphire.
Water resistance is rated to 30 metres. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
The A5000 Calibre
Inside is the manually wound A5000 calibre, one of the defining components of Angelus’ contemporary chronograph line.
The movement is just 4.20mm thick, helping explain how Angelus keeps the overall case below 10mm. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
It operates at 3Hz / 21,600 vibrations per hour, offers 42 hours of power reserve, and uses a traditional column wheel and horizontal clutch for the chronograph. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
The manually wound A5000 calibre uses a column wheel and horizontal clutch and measures only 4.20mm thick.
The finishing is intentionally traditional.
The main plate and bridges are 3N gilded, while the chronograph mechanism itself is rhodium-plated. The bridges feature Côtes de Genève and polished chamfers, with polished screws and circular-grained wheels completing the movement decoration. That contrast between gold-toned architecture and the cooler chronograph components gives the movement a strong visual identity.
Limited Across All Three Versions
All three Chronographe Tachymètre models are limited.
The yellow-gold edition is the rarest, with just 15 pieces.
The pink-dial steel version is limited to 30 pieces, while the grey-and-blue steel edition is produced in 50 pieces. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
Pricing is set at CHF 34,600 including VAT for the yellow-gold model and CHF 18,500 including VAT for either steel version. ENG_ANG Chronographe Tachymètre
At 37mm across and 9.25mm thick, the Chronographe Tachymètre is the most compact watch in Angelus’ current collection.
What makes the Chronographe Tachymètre work is restraint.
The case is small.
The movement is thin.
The dial is colourful without becoming overly decorative.
And rather than simply applying a racing-inspired colour scheme to an existing watch, Angelus has tied the entire design back to one of the most traditional chronograph functions: measuring speed.
It feels less like a retro-themed novelty and more like a continuation of the kind of watches the brand was already making nearly a century ago.
