Waltz N°1 Gold Black Dial

EXCLUSIVE LIMITED SERIES 18 CARAT GOLD

The Emperor’s Choice: Honoring the brand's imperial watchmaking legacy marked by their golden pocket watches, which were manufactured in our watch factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, the Waltz N°1 Gold boasts an 18ct gold case of outstanding quality.
The production series is limited to only five watches with their serial numbers engraved in the case bottom.

LUXURY WATCH WITH 18K GOLD CASE AND BLACK DIAL
The Waltz N°1 Gold is a particularly precious version of the classic Waltz N°1 by Carl Suchy & Söhne. The strictly limited series of only 5 watches is handcrafted adhering to the highest-quality Swiss watchmaking standards.
Using a highest-quality gold case, the Waltz N°1 Gold pays tribute to the imperial gold pocket watches the Austrian watchmaker produced around 1900 - during Viennese Modernism, a design era known for its golden sheen and sophisticated elegance. The Waltz N°1 Gold skillfully combines contemporary design with the splendor of a pure 18-carat gold case. The ultra-flat golden wristwatch is available in our webshop in four colour variations and different collections.

MOVEMENT
The Waltz N°1 Gold is equipped with the ultra-thin automatic movement VMF 5401 with decentralised micro-rotor by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. The small, decentralised flywheel mass is particularly light and provides the watch with 48 hours power reserve. The movement’s angles are hand-polished and decorated with beautiful Geneva stripes.

CASE
The Waltz N°1 Gold boasts an 18-carat yellow gold case that plays with the juxtaposition of matte and polished surfaces, creating a particularly refined look. The movement is visible through the case-back made of anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

DIAL
The dial is of deep black (DLC-coating) and displays a rotating waltzing disc at six o’clock, the Waltz N°1 Gold’s most distinctive feature: every full minute, the rotating seconds disc matches dial’s pattern, creating a soothing visual effect while alluding to the Viennese sense of time, where the seconds do not count.

STRAP AND BUCKLE
The 18-carat gold security clasp offers maximum comfort and is adorned by Carl Suchy & Söhne’s historic logo. The Waltz N°1 Gold’s strap is made of high-quality alligator leather with black stitching. The pattern on the inside of the strap is inspired by Austrian architect Adolf Loos and was designed especially for Carl Suchy & Söhne.

INSPIRED BY VIENNESE MODERNISM

In the art nouveau-dominated Vienna of the early 20iest  century, Austrian architect Adolf Loos was amongst the first ones to reject ornamentation and give priority to proportions and volumes. He is considered one of the precursors of modern architecture and his writings were published in Le Corbusier’s journal L’Esprit Nouveau, who appreciated his «clear and original» spirit. To draw the pure lines and classic dial of the Waltz N°1, as well as its subtle guillochage, CEO Robert Punkenhofer and designer Miloš Ristin were inspired by the avant-garde and minimalist style of Adolf Loos.

AN EXTRA-FLAT MOVEMENT MANUFACTURED IN SWITZERLAND

The Waltz N ° 1 is equipped with the ultra-thin automatic movement VMF 5401 (Swiss Made) designed and produced by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier. It has been modified by Zurich-based watchmaker Marc Jenni – an advocate of sober aesthetics and former member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) – to add a rotating second disc at 6 o‘clock with a striped guilloche-pattern that aligns with that of the dial once a minute.

  1. The curvature of the glass is
    carried on to the casing.
  2. The rounded and polished edging
plays with the contrast of matt
    glazing and reflecting light.
  3. The polished lugs form a line
parallel to the bezel and carry
    on its reflection.
  4. The curved watch-strap emerges
    from the polished lugs.
  5. The curvatures of the bottom
and lower glass together form the
conclusive face of the “Waltz No 1”.

Understated elegance, pure lines, and design coherence mark the Waltz N°1’s case.

The decoration is used sparingly and only emerges on second glance. Two different patterns that were developed exclusively for Carl Suchy & Söhne are found on the inside of the watch-strap. Corvette Deployant, premium-quality buckle provides comfort and style. It plays with the contrast of matt glazing and light and displays Suchy’s emblem, the double-griffins, on the inside. The watch-strap is made of high-quality silk-matt leather, refined with black seam and a pinch of colour.

DIAL TAKE THIS WALTZ

The dial of the Waltz N°1 Gold features a guilloche- pattern, which is divided in half by vertical and horizontal striping. The rotating small seconds indicator, in the shape of a waltzing disc at six o’clock, is cut out of the striping and thus is aligned with the rest of the dial once per minute as it waltzes in a perfect circle. It’s a tribute to the dancing rhythm of the Viennese Waltz – and to the Viennese savoir-vivre, in which the seconds do not count. The dials of the golden automatic watches are available in white, black, gold, and blue.

MOVEMENT SWISS PRECISION

Visible through a sapphire crystal case back, Waltz N°1 is equipped with an adjusted self-winding mechanical VMF 5401 movement by Swiss high-end mechanical movement manufacturer Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, featuring a “Côtes de Genève” finishing and hand-polished angles. This small extra-flat (2.6 mm) masterpiece of complexity features a decentralized gold-plated micro-rotor, allowing for the watches’ slender form, light weight, and great wearing comfort. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 48h power reserve. It features just under 200 parts. Exhibiting exceptional craftsmanship in every respect, each Waltz N°1 is masterfully hand-assembled by watchmaker Marc Jenni.

The Waltz N°1 features a modified and hand-finished movement by Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier with decentralized gold-plated micro-rotor.

About Carl Suchy & Söhne

VIENNESE ELEGANCE SINCE 1822

2017 the Viennese legacy watch brand returned with the „Waltz N°1“

IMPERIAL

Founded in 1822 by Austrian watch-maker Carl Suchy, the renowned watch brand counted the likes of Emperor Franz Joseph, Empress Sisi and Sig- mund Freud amongst his distinguished customers. After one century as the sole watchmaker for the Habsburg roy- alty, Carl Suchy & Söhne disappeared with the demise of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 2017, the brand has revived.

VIENNESE MINIMALISM AND SWISS MANUFACTURE

The Viennese legacy brand returned in 2017 with an iconic model: The Waltz N°1, a watch that is inspired by Viennese Modernism and the works of architect Adolf Loos, who marked the golden age of Austrian art. The automatic timepiece features a caliber by Vaucher Manu- facture Fleurier, which is reworked by Swiss watchmaker Marc Jenni, a former member of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI). In 2018, the watch brand presented a skeleton version of its best-seller.

VIENNESE ART OF LIVING

Renowned worldwide, the pompous Austrian capital’s coffeehouse culture and the illustrious balls held at the imperial courts have been the basis of the Viennese art of living since the beginning of the 20iest century. With its rotating “Waltzing Disk” in place of the second hand at 6 o’clock, the Waltz 1 and its declinations honor an époque of artistic and intellectual effervescence, in which time counted little: once a minute, its guilloche-pattern on the disc aligns with that of the dial.

CARL SUCHY & SÖHNE THE LEGACY

1796 Carl Suchy was born in Prague, the «royal metropolis» and second cap- ital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

1812-1819  Apprentice years with famous German watchmaker Franz Lehner. Wandering years in German and Switzerland, the cradles of Euro- pean watchmaking.

1822  26 -year  old  Suchy  opens his shop in Prague. His technically advanced pendulum and wall clocks match the market-leading English and Swiss models and win countless prizes. Official sup- plier to the Imperial Court since 1835, Suchy has 35 employees and gains a good reputation well beyond the Empire.

1844 Thanks to his watches, which „exceed the highest expectations in regard to elegance and technical per- fection”, Carl Suchy is appointed the first and for many years only “Watch Purveyor to the Royal and Imperial Court”.

1849  As Suchy’s sons join the paren- tal business, „Carl Suchy & Söhne” is founded. The watches are produced in the Austrian manufactory as well as in the Swiss branch and are regularly displayed at world fairs in Paris, London and Vienna.

1863  Carl Suchy & Söhne opens a shop in the center of Vienna and holds the title of Purveyor to the Royal Courts for three generations until the decay of the Habsburg Empire in 1918.

2017  Revived by Robert Punken- hofer, an internationally renowned art and design expert, the Viennese legacy watch brands returns in 2017 to Basel with the Waltz 1, whose skeleton version is presented in Basel in 2018.
