Chronographe Tachymètre Steel Grey Dial
Chronographe Tachymètre Steel Grey Dial
High-Octane Style
With the roar of a powerful engine, the Chronographe Tachymètre is in its element. A reinterpretation of Angelus’ historic style, this series of three contrasting versions revives the sleek, distinctive character of the Maison’s chronographs. In yellow gold or steel, with a 37 mm diameter and 9.25 mm thickness, they sit perfectly on the wrist. Inside, the A5000 calibre also draws on the codes of a vintage movement, aligning engine and bodywork within the same historical aesthetic.
Winner of the Chronograph Watch Prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève 2025 for its Chronographe Télémètre, Angelus revitalises its functional and artistic heritage. Founded in Le Locle in 1891, the Maison quickly specialised in alarm watches, repeaters and, of course, chronographs. The Chronographe Tachymètre follows in the tradition of Angelus creations from the 1930s to the 1950s, and is available in three versions: one in 3N yellow gold and two in steel.
Dashboard
The tachymeter is one of the four measurement scales associated with a chronograph’s seconds hand. It measures the speed of a moving object, making it an ideal companion for motoring. The Chronographe Tachymètre’s scale is calibrated to a base of 1,000, as indicated on the flange.
To measure speed, simply start the chronograph using the pusher integrated into the crown as the first marker is passed, then stop it after travelling one kilometre or one mile. The central seconds hand shows the speed directly in kilometres or miles per hour on the tachymeter scale. Elapsed time can be read on the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. With a tachymeter scale starting at 500 km/h, the Chronographe Tachymètre is clearly designed not only for motoring, but also for measuring much higher speeds.
Bodywork and Interior
At 37 mm in diameter and just 9.25 mm thick, the Chronographe Tachymètre is the slimmest and most compact model in Angelus’ contemporary collections. Its case band features a characteristic curve that runs from lug to lug. This line highlights the complex shape of the lugs, which sweep downwards from above and appear to twist along the sides. These dynamic details all contribute to the distinctive vintage character of the pieces in the La Fabrique collection.
The dial is grained, while the small-seconds and 30-minute counters are finely snailed. The applied hour markers and Arabic numerals feature a black finish on the steel models and a gold-toned finish on the yellow gold version.
The dials come in three variations, each with a colour combination inspired by motoring. The yellow gold model pairs a golden dial with British racing green details. The other two models are in steel. The first has a coral-pink dial with steel-grey accents and the second opts for a cooler contrast, with a pearl-grey centre framed by a petrol-blue flange and counters.
Vintage Engine
The final classic element of the Chronographe Tachymètre is the A5000 calibre with its distinctive gilded bridges and main plate. Only the chronograph mechanism is rhodium-plated. This singular movement, with its exceptionally smooth chronograph actuation, continues a long tradition of independent chronographs. Over the years, the A5000 calibre has evolved while retaining its original architecture, with particularly meticulous bevelling and straight-grained finishes.
The A5000 calibre is a cornerstone of Angelus watchmaking. At just 4.20 mm thick, it is perfectly suited to the compact proportions of the Chronographe Tachymètre’s 37 mm case. Beating at 3 Hz, it operates the chronograph via a column wheel and horizontal clutch, in the finest tradition of Angelus chronographs.
