OttantaSei Titanium

Consisting of four sapphire crystals that occupy the main surfaces, the finished case evokes the notion of aviation and the glass surrounding the cockpit of an aircraft or helicopter.

Mechanically, equal importance was placed on three pillars – energy, time display, and the regulating organ, in this case, BOVET’s patented double-sided flying tourbillon – in order to achieve balance and symmetry.

The flying tourbillon carriage is made up of no fewer than 104 components. Its innovative construction and single fixation point contribute to the superbly weighted thickness of the movement, and of the watch itself.

This ingenious construction owes its existence to the patented double-sided tourbillon, which features the escapement and balance spring positioned on either side of the central fixation point, enhancing both the chronometric performance and aesthetics.

Shared Vision.

The Ottantasei is the result of the shared vision between Pascal Raffy, owner of BOVET 1822, and Paolo Pininfarina, head of the Italian design house.

The designers and watchmakers joined forces from the very start of the project. They decided to give the same importance to the three main mechanical groups contained within a watch movement: the energy, time display, and regulating organ, which here is the patented double-sided flying tourbillon.

From the outset, movement and case were considered as a single entity, developed at the same time to yield optimum esthetics, transparency, and ergonomics. Throughout the piece’s development, the designers were inspired by its technological features, which led them to style its stunningly original face.

Technically Fascinating.

The technical specifications of the Ottantasei alone will certainly satisfy the most demanding connoisseurs. A single barrel keeps the double-sided flying tourbillon revolving for more than 10 days, and the tourbillon’s architecture and design increase both the piece’s accuracy and transparency, since its attachments are practically invisible. Lastly, a spherical differential halves the time it takes to wind the piece without increasing the torque of the winding mechanism. These innovations led to the filing of three international patents.

The 44mm Ottantasei is limited to 86 total movements, in a variety of materials and finishes.

The Ottantasei has been reduced to just the essentials – hours, minutes, and a power reserve indicator – powered by a spectacular, and patented, double-sided flying tourbillon. Stripped to its basics, the Ottantasei is a do anything, go anywhere timepiece, perfect for wearing with jeans and a shirt and just as comfortable out on the town.

Mr. Pascal Raffy

In 2001, the House of BOVET is purchased by Pascal Raffy, a collector of BOVET and other timepieces.

Mr. Raffy is now the sole owner of BOVET 1822.

In 2006, Mr. Raffy purchased DIMIER 1738, a manufacture of tourbillons and spirals, as well as a case manufacturer.

At the same time, he purchased the Castle of Môtiers, once owned by the Bovet family, and installed the headquarters of the brand and the timepiece assembly, final quality control, as well as the engraving workshop.

Under the visionary guidance of owner Mr. Pascal Raffy, BOVET 1822 acquired renowned tourbillon and  dial  manufactures  in  2006.  DIMIER  1738,  now  renamed  BOVET  1822,  immediately  began producing the Maison’s movements, hair springs, and dials in-house.
